Make a Good Mega Man Level 2

MaGMML2-34-BiplaneBay.png
Amazing! Stationary biplanes have finally been invented!

Biplane Bay is the 34th place level in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2. It is a water level with a focus on Water Blocks and Rotating Spike Platforms.

Strategy[edit]

The first room of the level features two Rackasers and one V as obstacles, while also introducing Water Blocks. Going to the right, Mega Man then faces a single Bomber Pepe, followed by two Rackasers in the room above. To the right is a single Dada and a split path. Using Sakugarne to get through the right path rewards Mega Man with some weapon energy. Dropping through the lower path instead takes Mega Man to a room with a Toss Machine, a V, a Dada, and a group of Water Blocks. In the room to the right, under the V, is a secret path where Mega Man can maneuver between Water Blocks and spikes to get an M-Tank. Either climbing up the ladder at the end of this path or simply going right on the main path will lead to a Bomber Pepe and a group of Rotating Spike Platforms placed in increasingly dangerous situations. The room to the right is an empty room, and the checkpoint of the level.

Heading to the right of the checkpoint, Mega Man faces a large room with a Toss Machine, a Dada, and several dangerously-placed Water Blocks and Rotating Spike Platforms, with a Rackaser right next to the room's exit. Making it across a spike pit with Water Blocks below it in this room rewards Mega Man with an E-Tank. Going to the right instead will lead Mega Man to two rooms once again combining Rotating Spike Platforms with Water Blocks, this time in the form of puzzles to figure out how Mega Man can get into the next room safely. This is then followed by a mild spike drop that lasts for three rooms, with a small weapon energy capsule or large health capsule serving as a reward if Mega Man squeezes through certain sets of spikes (though the rewards can also be grabbed by Hornet Chaser. The room after this is a boss corridor, followed by a battle against Toad Man in a room with uneven flooring and a pair of Water Blocks in the center making it difficult to hit Toad Man in time to stop his Rain Flush.

Overall kind of a 'meh' level. The music is atrocious and it destroyed my ears several times over. But the design itself is good, and the usage of the flipping X platforms is okay, though I do wish they were used a bit more. Overall I think that's my main issue with the level - it just doesn't really do much. It sets itself up with the set of enemies and the flipping platforms and the water pumps, and while there are setups I really like, like the one with the water pump + penguin + two X platforms at the end, I don't think the level really expands on them beyond a few interesting setups each. The fight with Toad Man is pretty interesting, though, and the water pumps caused a surprising amount of trouble for me. Overall an okay level - I wish it had done more, though. Also that M Tank is SO not worth it.

This level looks really nice, but the design felt...kind of bland. There aren't a lot of enemies, and most of the challenge comes from the spiky platforms and geysers that try to push you into them. I did enjoy the extra challenge you gave Toad Man, though.

I didn't feel like this level was doing much in terms of progression at all. Every area feels kinda like the last one and there are alternate routes which lead into dead ends on several screens which confused me quite a bit. The aesthetic is nice, aside from the music that half the time consists of nothing but a screeching tone. There were also some spikes that didn't work properly. I feel really bad because I got nothing I can really say about this level... it doesn't do much wrong, it doesn't really exceed at anything. It just kinda... exists :/

Decent level design. I think there are a few cases of obstacle spam and parts of the level which just seem poorly made. But the rest is fine. Also there are secrets in the level, but they all lead to boring and useless stuff. I really enjoyed this level. It got a little boring so no max points, but ultimately it was a fun experience. I liked the submarine theme. The obstacle usage was also done in an interesting manner. Not perfect, but graphics look very good and music choice is pretty decent as well. Works just fine, but there are a few hiccups around

A pretty sweet level. I think the level did get boring from time to time and certain sections are a bit lame, but it has an interesting concept and the obstacle usage was well done. Ultimately, it was a fun experience. I also thought it was disappointing that all I got from finding secret paths was basic items such as E-Tanks.

Hrm. This level is fine, really. Has some issues though:

I do not see the point of any of your secret, hidden or extra challenging off the beaten path areas and rooms. This contest has a thing called Noble Nickels. You probably should've replaced each and every one of your hidden collectables with one. Because as it stands - no one in their right minds is going to attempt these areas, especially the harder ones!

This is a total bummer, as there are some really good concepts outside of the main path! There is so little reward for these though for so much effort: large health, E-Tanks, and ... weapon energy? (This last one is downright stupid - you require special weapons to reach this weapon energy in the first place.) This might be one of the few stages I've encountered where the lack of properly used collectables actively hurts it.

I do like some of these areas though - the room with the E-Tank is very good. Pointless, but good.

I can't really point out that much wrong about and you get some ok mileage out of the Powered Up Pump even on the primary path. I don't get the use of planes either, considering they don't do a damn thing.

Solid enough overall, not that fun, but your level is decent.
