The Giant Spear Man is a boss from Wario Land II. A giant Pirate Goom, it is one of Wario's biggest enemies, with the two battling each other numerous times over the course of the game.

The Giant Spear Man appears in Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero as the boss of the level Defeat the Giant Spear Man!. As in Wario Land II, he battles Zero more than once across the stage, changing his strategy each time.

In Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, the Giant Spear Man reappears as an NPC. He manages the SS Elroy's Kickboxing Club and its main attraction, The Ring, where Mega Man can refight any boss that he has previously defeated.

Battle[edit]

First fight[edit]

When first facing Zero, the Giant Spear Man has only 14 HP, and opts to walk slowly back and forth across a one-block high platform, occasionally stopping to jump in the air and create a small earthquake when landing. This earthquake will stun Zero briefly if he is grounded once it occurs. Despite his easy pattern, the Giant Spear Man is protected from the front by his spear.

Second fight[edit]

In the second encounter, the Giant Spear Man is fought with a full healthbar in a room with two top-solid platforms on either side. As before, the spear also acts as a shield that protects him from frontal attacks. While he retains his walking and quake-jump attacks, he has new attacks as well; he can either fire his spear outwards before recalling it, or charge straight ahead until slamming into a wall (this latter move also ignores gravity). In addition, the Giant Spear Man can move forwards a short distance while in mid-air before he lands.

Third fight[edit]

For the third and final battle, the Giant Spear Man is battled on flat terrain with full health and all weapon damage halved. By far the most dangerous and aggressive battle, the Giant Spear Man retains his quake-causing jump, spear firing attack, and dash attack from his previous battles, but has many more unique attacks. Every so often, he will raise his spear, charge energy, then use one of three attacks, telegraphed by the colour and shape of the particles generated:

  • After creating four red flames, he fires four large waves of fire straight ahead.
  • After creating four blue snowflakes, he fires a spreadshot of three ice arrows, similar to the Ice Slasher.
  • After creating four green lightning bolts, he fires a large spark aimed at Zero.

Additionally, if the Giant Spear Man throws his spear offscreen, it will pull back a random piece of treasure and throw it at Zero; upon hitting the ground, it makes a damaging explosion.

After the Giant Spear Man lands from a jump, an owl will fly overhead to drop a Pirate Goom (or occasionally a Spearhead) once it reaches Zero's position. The owl can be destroyed, but it will still drop the enemy, and it will still be summoned by the boss's subsequent jumps. If a Pirate Goom/Spearhead is already on the field, the owl won't appear.

Trivia[edit]

  • The treasure the Giant Spear Man throws in his final battle comes from Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3; all fifteen items can appear at random.
  • The Giant Spear Man's weapon is, in fact, a trident.
