Hanabiran is a midboss from Mega Man 9. It is a flower-shaped robot that fires its petals.
Hanabiran is included in the Megamix Engine, and was available as a devkit midboss in all games made with it. The first of these to use it was Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, where it is a recurring miniboss in the stage Twilight Terrace. It reappeared in Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, in the entries Flower Core, Void Quest, Flowers and Thorns, and Braving New Depths.
In Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, Hanabiran appears in the entries Wilys Redemption, Grassy Plains, Water Level? Ice Level?, Hornet Man got a new Stage, Robogarden, and Irrigation Irritation, the last of which downgrades it into a minor enemy. It also appears in the NEO Pit of Pits sublevel "Wizardly Trap".
Behavior[edit]
Hanabiran will randomly appear from "HanabiranSpawnLocation" objects placed in the level, though it cannot appear from the same location twice or appear directly beneath Mega Man. If no "HanabiranSpawnLocation" objects are placed, it will simply appear from its starting location constantly. Once it appears, it will fire one petal towards Mega Man at a time, disappearing if four petals have been fired or it has taken damage.
In Twilight Terrace, Hanabiran has an extra attack it performs after disappearing; it will create a row of harmful projectiles that move up and down before self-destructing. These projectiles are telegraphed by puffs of smoke, and will always appear on the horizontal level that the Hanabiran was on.
By default, Hanabiran will destroy any Hanabiran Clock Arms in the room when defeated, but if Hanabiran is given the creation code value "destroyClockArm = false", the Hanabiran Clock Arms will remain intact.
