Smaplar is an enemy from Mega Man 9. It is a ground-crawling robot surrounded by a high-voltage electric field.

Smaplar was first made available with the Megamix Engine, and subsequently the devkits for all games created with it. Its MaGMML game debut was Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, in the levels Midnight Aurora and Entrance Succession. It went on to appear in Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level in the levels Faint Flying Factory and Pandora's Parlor.

Smaplar returned for Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, and was used in the entries Temple of Light and Dark, Luminous Tower Ascent, and Cable Woman. It also made apperances in the game's Weapon Tutorials, the Tier X level Smashed Into Pieces, and the NEO Pit of Pits sublevels "A Level My Sister Created", "Boobeam Evasion", "Circuit Station", "Masquerade Ball", and "Shocking, Isn't It?".

Behavior

Smaplars crawl along surfaces such as walls and ceilings at high speeds. They are completely immune to most weapons.

Smaplar has a few creation code variables that affect its functionality:

  • sp - Controls the speed a Smaplar moves at (by default, this is set to 1.5).
  • dir - Affects the direction a Smaplar moves in (1 = right, -1 = left). Flipping a Smaplar object in the room editor will also affect its direction.
  • col - Changes the colour of a Smaplar's sprite (0 = yellow (default), 1 = pink).
