The Scorching Duo
The Scorching Duo refers to a pair of bosses, both named Scorch Man. One of them is a Robot Master from the fangame Mega Man Sunrise, who was recruited by Dr. Wily to aid the robot Trance in wreaking havoc on the world, while the other is from the bootleg game Zook Hero Z, and is a magician who serves Dr. Mitt (Dr. Mean in the game's instruction manual) in his plans for world conquest after always feeling rejected. This latter Scorch Man is also known by the name Fire Magician.
They both appear in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2, collectively serving as a tier boss. Because of there being two bosses, their patterns are drastically different from either of their original fights.
Mega Man Sunrise/Zook Hero Z
The Scorch Man from Mega Man Sunrise is one of the first four Robot Masters that must be battled. His stage is an industrial area filled with lava, Magma Beams, and several fire-based hazards and enemies. When fighting Mega Man, he attacks by using his Scorch Smelter to create large, slow fireballs that send smaller fireballs out from its top and bottom, in addition to leaving ground flames and shooting giant fireballs. His weakness is Valve Man's Valve Missile, and his Scorch Smelter is the weakness of Circuit Man.
The Scorch Man/Fire Magician from Zook Hero Z is one of the main six bosses, and resides inside a volcano. In battle, he uses a variety of flame weapons, such as his fireball-making Flame Thrower, and a flaming sword. He is weak to the One-Eyed Sea Monster's Super Foam weapon, while his Flame Thrower is the weakness of the Tempest Plant Monster.
Make a Good Mega Man Level 2
The Scorching Duo appear as the boss of Tier 4, the Subway. Mega Man stumbles in on them arguing which of the two is the superior robot, before both parties agree to settle their differences by fighting Mega Man - whoever lands the finishing blow wins.
The Scorching Duo starts the battle on opposite sides of the room. They simultaneously shoot projectiles straight forward six times, randomly choosing between both standing on the ground or both jumping while doing so. Zook Scorch Man then jumps to the center of the room, and Sunrise Scorch Man jumps straight up twice; each time he jumps, he shoots the Scorch Smelter - a giant fireball that leaves behind a stream of smaller fireballs straight up and down - and Zook Scorch Man shoots flames to his left and right each time Sunrise Scorch Man shoots his Scorch Smelter. The duo then swaps positions, and the pattern repeats.
When the Scorching Duo's health reaches 14, they recognise that they must work together to defeat Mega Man, and "fuse" together... into what is simply the two of them tied together with rope. Their pattern then changes; While floating above Mega Man, Sunrise Scorch Man shoots seven flames that drop to the ground and linger before disappearing. They then swoop down three times, with Zook Scorch Man shooting flames to the left and right each time they touch the ground.
Despite their large health, each Scorch Man has their own i-frames separate from each other, thus both can be damaged to drain their health quicker. After their defeat, the Scorch Men show up as NPCs in different areas of the hub. Sunrise Scorch Man appears in Chateau Chevaleresque, while Zook Scorch Man appears in McWily's trying to drown his sorrows in Wily Combos.
- Originally, the Scorching Duo consisted of Scorch Man from Mega Man Sunrise and Scorch Man from the fangame Mega Man Eternal. To match this, the theme that playing during the boss fight against them was the boss theme of the latter's sequel fangame, Mega Man Eternal II. Following objections from the creator of Mega Man Eternal, that game's Scorch Man was replaced with Scorch Man from Zook Hero Z, and the boss theme was changed to the boss music from Mega Man Sunrise. The attacks where Zook Hero Z Scorch Man shoots flames to his left and right is a leftover from the Mega Man Eternal Scorch Man.
- In his game of origin, the Scorch Man from Zook Hero Z is named Fire Magician in the game's instruction manual. The unofficial name "Scorch Man" comes from a review of Zook Hero Z by Brahman (which is no longer available for viewing).
