Thunderclyffe Plant is the 6th place entry in Make a Good Mega Man Level. It is a power plant level with Elec Blocks serving as the primary obstacle, alongside a large variety of enemies.

Strategy[edit]

The level starts with the entrance to the titular plant, blocked by a Returning Sniper Joe. Dropping down and falling through a room with two Lyrics leads to a longer room with a Pickelman Bull, a Cannon Joe, and two Shield Attackers. Dropping down again leads to a room with a Shield Attacker and an Elec Block. In the room below this, a pair of Magic Barriers and a Returning Sniper Joe block a large energy capsule. After that is a long room with Picket Men, Octopus Batteries, a Hammer Joe, and a Crazy Cannon all appearing as obstacles.

After falling through a group of rooms with Tabans appearing in conjunction with various enemies (specifically Tellies, a Pandeeta, and Octopus Batteries), Mega Man lands in an rocky underground/nighttime area with several Metalls, a Gachappon, and a Power Muscler. At the end of this room is an entrance to another part of the plant, which leads to a room with several Telly spawners. Climbing up the ladder leads to a Super Ball Machine Jr., a Pandeeta, and a pair of Yoku Blocks blocking another ladder. This ladder leads to a long climb upwards, starting with two rooms with a Super Ball Machine Jr. in each (and a Cannon in the first). Following this is two rooms of climbing up ladders while avoiding Elec Blocks and Crazy Cannons, followed by a room where the ladder on the left leads to an E-Tank, and the one on the right leads to a 1-Up. Climbing up the middle ladder and getting past one final Crazy Cannon leads to a split path. Going right leads to a room with a Hot Dog guarding a W-Tank1 or M-Tank1R, while going to the left leads to a room where Mega Man can climb upwards to face a Big Eye blocking a gate. Getting past the gate on the left route leads to the Energy Element.

This level seriously looks amazing, and I really like the aesthetic of an underground castle and city. The music was great, too! Some of the castle parts were super neat too, I really liked the structure of the vertical segment towards the end.

You can get stuck and have to restart if you enter the room with the W Tank by sliding. I can see how you'd overlook something like that though. More importantly, the stage was still fun a second time, which is something to be proud of! It didn't really push any envelopes in terms of gameplay, but you changed things up a lot, and the presentation was especially good.

Jokes aside. I loved this level, front to back.

This... was also a level. I take it the music theme here is Tesla Coatl's theme in 8-bit. Regarding the level itself... you definitely built a good level with what you had, but I don't really feel like enough was done to really make the level excel either. It works, but I wouldn't say it stands out, really.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this level, although at times, it seems either too empty, or just a bit too harsh. I also quite liked the tower portion of the stage - not many of these levels do ladder segments. I did find that some gimmicks, like the yoku blocks, were hardly fleshed out at all.

Trivia[edit]

  • The level's name and music hails from Mega Man X: Variable Zero, an on-hold fangame developed by Lamda, where they are used for Tesla Coatl's stage.
  • During development, a gimmick involving moving sparks was planned, as well as a boss fight against Tesla Coatl from the aforementioned Mega Man X: Variable Zero. However, neither of these were implemented in time.
