Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero

Rainbow Ravine is a level in Chapter 3 of Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero. While in the extradimensional Tier X, Zero enters a volcanic area filled with crystals and purple lava. Using a recoloured version of Magma Man's tiles, the level has a similar "geothermal plant" aesthetic, but instead of fiery enemies manning the station, autonomous cannons act as intruder repellents, in addition to a Sniper Joe/Metall hybrid. The original Magma Man's Magma Beams also appear, albeit with a red colour - here, instead of instantly killing Zero on contact, they instead deal 9 points of damage to him.

Strategy[edit]

The level begins with simple jumps over instant-death lava, with green Tackle Fires rising out of certain pools to try and smack Zero into them. Classical Cannons appear not long after, as do Yonbains. A few screens later, Sniper Moes and Wall Blaster IIs are introduced to the stage, before Zero is faced with a room lined with spikes, with two Falling Platforms suspended above them. One checkpoint and a few vertical screens later, Zero encounters red Magma Beams for the first time, and while Yonbains are in the area, they are destroyed instantly if they touch the beams. If Zero has the Icicle Chip, he can freeze the Magma Beams, but this serves little practical purpose as he cannot shatter them. After this, he comes across a free-scrolling tower with Rising Lava coming up from the bottom. If he has the Double Jump, he can scale the tower very quickly, and the Psycho Chip's weapons can quickly kill the many Wall Blaster IIs lining the walls.

After climbing to the top, Zero enters a long corridor with Classical Cannons shooting at him from the ceiling. While he can stay on the ground and hide from the cannonballs beneath platforms, there are Gagabyoalls trawling the ground below. At the end of the corridor is a split path, with both paths focusing on jumping across Falling Platforms to avoid spikes. However, going right will lead to a CD, while going down the ladder leads to a risky E-Tank. In both cases, the Psycho Chip's low gravity can help with avoiding the spikes. Both paths lead to another platformer section over lava, albeit with more enemies and the addition of Magma Beams halfway through. Following this are a few screens leading downwards, with horizontal Magma Beams periodically emerging from the walls. Whether he's slow and careful or quick and reckless, passing through these will lead to another checkpoint.

More ceiling-bound Classical Cannons attack Zero, before he descends into a screen below via one of two passages. The leftmost one drops him on a Falling Platform next to a ? Can, while the rightmost one puts him on solid ground. Both sides can reach a Falling Platform resting beneath an alcove containing a CD, but it is easier to get to from the right. Additionally, the CD can only be obtained with the Double Jump, and is too high to reach otherwise. Falling down takes Zero to a small area with lots of Tackle Fires raining down on him, and the entrance to another rising lava section. Once again, the Double Jump and the Zap Chip can help in outrunning the lava, allowing one to focus more on the many Sniper Moes, Yonbains, and other enemies that stand in Zero's way. Towards the end, another set of horizontal Magma Beams try and slow him down, and at the very top, two Classical Cannons mounted on the ceiling attempt to snipe him. Defeating them and leaving the tower will take Zero to a small room containing the Energy Element.

Z-Phone Dialogue[edit]

ZPhoneWily.png Dr. Wily Rainbow Ravine?

I don't know where that is. Probably some underground tourist attraction, given the alliteration.

All I can tell is that you're near a lot of lava. And you don't need me to tell you what to do, then.

Watch out! The obviously hazardous thing is hazardous! I'm so helpful.

ZPhoneKrantz.png Agent Krantz Krantz: Rainbow Ravine?

There's a very hot liquid throughout that entire area.

Zero: Is it lava?

Krantz: If it is, then it's a very weird color for it...

If it is, maybe it'll respond to ice?

Zero: Possibly... any other tips?

Krantz: Not really, except the Sniper Moes.

Zero: Sniper... Moe?

Krantz: I mean what else would you call a Sniper Joe with a Met helmet?

Zero: A Sniper Joesttaur?

Krantz: ...

Zero: Wait, what about Sniper Joettauro?

Z-Phone: ~Click~

ZPhoneGalaxy.png Galaxy Man (CD #1): For this one, make sure to stay on the top path when the paths split!

The more dangerous road is always the one with the reward! ...Well, maybe not always, but...

(CD #2): So, SUPER deep into that big cave place, there'll be a mini path split again, right?

Take the rightmost path again, and bring some kinda midair boost to get to the CD!

ZPhoneKnives.png Knives Knives: So pretty~! The rainbow light emitting from the crystals is so romantic... Zero?

I think we might've found the perfect spot... Wait, gross. Nevermind.

Zero: ...What made you change your mind?

Knives: Ugh. I just realized what those crystals are for. They're White Life.

Zero: What.

Knives: They're extradimensional entities trapped in the form of a crystal after being corrupted by Lenoviction Storms!

I hear the government kidnaps people yearly and injects them with that stuff to crystallize their brains through a
Shatonite Morphosis and convert them into living supercomputers. I-It's so scary, Zero! H-Hold me!

Zero: I...

Nevermind.

Trivia[edit]

  • In v1.00 of MaGMML: Episode Zero, the Skull Man CD incorrectly displays "021" when collected, as opposed to its correct number of 025. This is fixed in v1.11 onwards.
  • A broken-down Power Piston can be seen next to the Energy Element at the end.
  • Zero's terrible alternate names for Sniper Moe when calling Krantz reference JoJo's Bizarre Adventure; first the titular Joestar family, then the name of Stardust Crusaders's protagonist, Jotaro Kujo.
