THE CONTEST IS CLOSED!
The third Make a Good Mega Man Level contest is now closed, along with submissions for the "Shrine", the Neo Pit of Pits, and the Make a Good Mega Man Robot Master Contest. For posterity, we're preserving the original contest announcements below.
Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest 3
It's once again time to make a good Mega Man level! We provide the tools; you provide the creativity. Conventional or unconventional, short or long, easy or difficult...whatever kind of level you want to make, there's a place for it here. The submission deadline is November 25, 2018.
How do I participate?
- Read the official contest rules.
- Download GameMaker Studio 1.4 (abandonware).
- Download the Megamix Engine (currently v1.0.3.1).
- Watch the tutorial videos about how to use GameMaker Studio and the Megamix Engine to make a level.
- Make a level! And get other people to playtest it. Please.
- Submit your level via the submission form.
What happens after that?
Contest results will be announced whenever the judges have played, scored, and written a review for every level. This could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the number of submissions. At some point after the results are announced, the free-to-download Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest 3 game will be released to the public. The game will contain every level submitted to the contest (except any levels that broke the contest rules and were excluded), regardless of quality. The game will also include LOTS of additional content, but we'll keep that a secret for now.
Any tips for making a good level?
Yes! The judges of MaGMML1, 2, and 3 have plenty of level design tips and tricks to share. There's also a thread called What Have We Learned From MaGMML1 and 2?, which has insights and advice from past contest participants and development team members. Of course, playing MaGMML1, MaGMML2, and the spinoff game MaG24HMML (and paying attention to the level scores and judge reviews) is a great way to see how (not) to make a level.

Winners of this contest will have their Robot Masters featured in MaGMML3 with bonus levels and boss fights. So what are you waiting for!? Spread the word, get those creative juices flowing and make the best Robot Master to wow us all!!! Submissions end February 15, 2018.
