Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero

Do I look like lumber to you?!

Dispute Over Sawblades is the fourth level on the path to the Flame Chip in Chapter 2 of Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero. It is the headquarters of a logging company that Zero wanders into while looking for Energy Elements. The facility swiftly ends up trapping him amongst wood and cutting equipment, as well as several sap-covered walls. He can stick himself to these walls and jump off of them, giving him a pseudo-walljump akin to that seen in the Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero series.

The level starts by introducing Zero to a Walljump Wall that is too high to be jumped over. Running at it and repeatedly jumping will allow him to bypass the obstacle and proceed to the next room, with a single Blader inside. Going forward puts Zero in a hall, but some Wood Blocks stop him from exploring it further, unless he destroys them. Navigating the hall necessitates walljumping around Buzzsaws and spikes. The next room focuses on introducing the Blade Joe. After that, there is a room with Wood Block spawners showcasing that when a Wood Block falls on spikes, it will be shredded into harmful debris. What follows is a short stretch with Bladers and Cutting Saws, at the end of which Zero has to walljump around a Wood Block spawner.

The next room introduces Gabyoall SP and leads to another setup with a Blade Joe. Then the level introduces the Super Cutters and their ability to shred Wood Blocks, as well as offering Zero a large life energy refill. The following room is a stretch with pits, Wood Blocks, Bladers, Gabyoall SPs and one Cutting Saw necessitating careful mid-air movement. The next two rooms are focused on moving around Buzzsaws at the threat of being knocked into a pit or spikes before having another room with Super Cutters followed by another section using Buzzsaws.

At this point Zero is at a split path. Going up leads to a short platforming challenge with a CD for a reward, as indicated by a sign. Going right leads to a room with two Gabyoall SPs and one Blader, then a room with a Super Cutter spawner and a lot of Wood Blocks, and then a stretch with a Blade Joe, a Gabyoall SP, two Super Cutter spawners, a lot of Cutting Saws and a lot of Wood Blocks. At the start of this sequence the player is quickly taught that both Blade Joe's propeller blade as well as Cutting Saws are capable of shredding Wood Blocks.

Proceeding down, there is a room involving more walljumping, and then a stretch with a path of Wood Blocks over a pit which are about to be shredded by a Buzzsaw. The player needs to cross that path carefully and quickly while watching out for Cutting Saws, Blade Joes and Super Cutters trying to destroy the foothold as well as the ever-approaching Buzzsaw. In the middle of the path there is a Wood Block spawner over spikes necessitating either quick reaction or being far enough ahead of the Buzzsaw to afford waiting for the spawned blocks to be shredded without harm to Zero. Should he succeed at crossing this section, the boss of the level, Blade Man DOS, will be waiting for him in his chamber.

That's the base of an independent logging company. Those have been seeing some good business lately with the festivals.

I think that's run by a Robot Master, isn't it? A really old one. I barely even remember that set anymore.

Well, just remember that you can cut up a lot of logs at once, too. Saber, burst, whatever.

ZPhoneKrantz.png Agent Krantz Krantz: Dispute Over Sawblades?

Looking at their OSHA summaries, the area has a bunch of sappy walls.

Zero: The walls are sentimental?

Krantz: No, I mean they're literally coated in tree sap.

It'll cause you to stick to them, even if you're in the air.

There's also a bunch of wood blocks in that area.

You can destroy them with your weapons or a stomp and be fine, but if any of the cutting tools there destroy them,
they'll leave sharp debris. Think splinters, but way more painful.

ZPhoneGalaxy.png Galaxy Man Look out for a little CD marker thingy by a ladder when there's a path split!

Follow that ladder and the CD won't be far away from there!

ZPhoneYamato.png Yamato Man Blade Man DOS? Isn't that "two" in Spanish? Why not call him "Blade Man 2"?

If the creators were Spanish, then the "Blade Man" part of the name should've also been in Spanish!

Why would you make only one part of your Robot Master be a different language? Where's the consistency?!

Well, whatever the case, Blade Man DOS is a very frantic opponent, so the key is to stay calm.

Pay attention when he throws blades midair, because they'll stick to the ground, only to be knocked up into the air
by the wheels he shoots.

The buzzsaws he fires at the start of the fight lock onto your position, so try to put them out of the way, so they won't
limit your dodging, but watch out when he calls them back!

ZPhoneKnives.png Knives Knives: Sawblades! Good taste!! But I don't need a haircut. So maybe not right now.

And other than that, there's no other BENEFITS there. Just a lot of woodchips!

That stuff gets all over your clothes, and eyes, and wounded Kindergarten soul!

Zero: ...What?

Knives: Oh, you wouldn't know. But maybe I can tell you the story once we're married!

  • The level's name is a not-so-subtle acronym for "DOS", referencing the system from which Blade Man DOS originated. It's also a cheeky nod to Blade Man DOS sharing his name with a Robot Master from Mega Man 10.
  • This level is one of two in the game to implement walljumping as a mechanic in a similar vein to that of the Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero series, the other being Springy Scaffolding.
