The Magma Beam is a gimmick in Mega Man 9, found in Magma Man's stage. It is a lethal beam of magma dispensed from green machines.

Magma Beams were first included in the Megamix Engine, and subsequently the devkits for Make a Good Mega Man Level 3 and Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level.

Behavior

Magma Beams periodically spawn from green source objects, making a harsh noise before going offscreen completely. If Mega Man directly touches them, they will instantly destroy him, but if he gets close enough to graze them, small particles will appear next to him. Magma Beams can be frozen solid with the Concrete Shot, Ice Wall, and Ice Slasher, turning them into solid objects that can be safely touched. While frozen, the Laser Trident can destroy Magma Beams.

The direction of a Magma Beam matches the angle of its source object, with the latter able to be rotated in the room editor to allow for horizontal or diagonal Magma Beams.
