Shoud is an enemy from the original Contra. It is a glowing core affixed to the walls of Red Falcon bases, and must be destroyed to proceed further inside.

Shouds also appear as enemies in Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, and appear exclusively in the stage Contra Base.

Behavior

Shouds are immobile enemies that cannot actively harm Zero; the only way they can damage him is if he runs into them. In order to progress through Contra Base, every Shoud in the current section needs to be destroyed; once this happens, a wall or floor will open up. Though Shouds lack attacks, other enemies often act as shields for them.

Shouds come in two sizes; most are small, but a single large Shoud exists. This larger variant has more HP, but is otherwise no different from smaller Shouds.

Notes

  • Internally, Shouds are considered minibosses, which is how they're able to destroy terrain when a section is completely cleared of them.
  • In their source game, Shouds hide behind an impenetrable shield at first, and will fire fast-moving projectiles at the player if not destroyed after a certain length of time. This behaviour is completely absent in their Episode Zero appearance.
