Proto Man, known as Blues in Japan, is the first Robot Master created by Dr. Light. Considered the "older brother" to Mega Man and Roll, he first appeared in Mega Man 3 where he tested Mega Man to see if he could beat Dr. Wily, as well as sometimes aiding him on his way through levels.
In the original Make a Good Mega Man Level, Proto Man appears in Eddie's Shop as the single unlockable costume in the game. In Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered, the costume is instead purchased from Roll's costume shop. This costume also appears in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2, and is one of the few costumes available from the start. Proto Man himself also appears as an NPC in Tier 9 if he isn't Mega Man's current costume.
Proto Mode
Both Make a Good Mega Man Level 2 and Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered feature Proto Man as a playable character through the "Proto Mode" cheat. When activated, Mega Man will be replaced by Proto Man, who plays as he does in Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10. When jumping, he uses his Proto Shield to block enemy projectiles, and he has a unique Charge Shot design and sound (if the Charged Buster upgrade is active, it will override said design). However, he also takes twice as much damage from attacks as Mega Man. He also cannot change costumes, as in both games the Costume Shop is closed if the cheat is active.
