"A Metall on treads with a shield. Once the treads are destroyed, charged Mega Buster shots are needed to knock the shield back while it fires arcing shots."
―Note in Hell Metall DX's code, Megamix Engine

Hell Metall DX is an enemy from Mega Man V. It is a small Metall with a cannon on the top of its head, an additional shield at the front of its body, and a set of treads it uses to move around.

Hell Metall DX is included in the Megamix Engine, and subsequently appeared in the devkits for all games built with it. Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level was its first appearance in a MaGMML game, and it appeared in the entries Footloose and Cascade. It returned in Make a Good Mega Man Level 3 for the entries Creatively Named Level, Military Training Grounds, and Mega Man DEV; as well as the Contest Weapon Playground, and the NEO Pit of Pits sublevel "Gravity of Decisions".

Behavior

Hell Metall DX will slowly move forward on its treads, turning around when it hits a wall or a ledge. It will keep its shield in front of it, occasionally raising it for a brief period of time before lowering it again. Hell Metall DX is only vulnerable from the front when its shield is raised, or from behind.

Once Hell Metall DX's treads have been destroyed, it will begin shooting arcing projectiles at a consistent rate. It will no longer raise its shield voluntarily, but if it is hit with a charged Mega Buster shot, its shield will be knocked away briefly before it lowers back down to cover the Hell Metall DX again. It will also turn around when Mega Man moves to its opposite side, meaning that charged buster shots and piercing weapons are the only means of defeating it. In Bass Mode, the shield can instead be knocked back simply by shooting it with the Bass Buster often enough.
