The Mix Tape is a Special Weapon originating from the Make a Good Mega Man Level series, based on Cassette Man. It is a multipurpose weapon using a cassette tape, whose properties change based on which side of the tape is active.
Make a Good Mega Man Level 3
The Mix Tape appears as a Contest Weapon in Make a Good Mega Man Level 3. By holding Up and pressing the Fire button, a cassette tape will fly out from Mega Man and return to him, changing his colours upon doing so. Each "side" of the Mix Tape has different functions, and can be distinguished by their colour schemes; Side A is blue, while Side B is red. It is possible to change sides even when the weapon currently has no ammunition.
By default, the Mix Tape shoots musical note projectiles that travel differently based on which side is currently active. Side A makes the notes travel in a straight line, with the angle alternating up and down with each shot similarly to the Yamato Spear from Mega Man 6. If Side B is active, the notes will instead travel in a sine wave pattern.
The Mix Tape can also be charged up, and the result dramatically differs between sides. When Side A is active, the Mix Tape creates a "Fast Forward" effect that temporarily slows down time for everything in the level except for Mega Man, signified by a VCR effect overlaid across the screen. Side B instead causes Mega Man to fire the Techno Laser: a large red laser that stretches vertically across the screen and damages anything that touches it. If the Auto Charge option is enabled (or the Instant Charge cheat is active), both charged variants are instead fired by shooting while holding the Down button.
By default, uncharged Mix Tape shots will inflict 2 points of damage to enemies, regardless of the current side. Enemies in the Mets, Bird, and Flying categories take 3 points of damage from the Mix Tape, while Rocky enemies only take 1. The Techno Laser inflicts 3 points of damage by default, and does 4 damage to Mets, Bird, and Flying enemies; however, Rocky enemies receive 1.5 damage from it, while it does just 1 point of damage to enemies in the Joes, Shielded, and Shield Attackers categories.
The "IV - The Emperor" achievement is awarded for killing ten enemies within a single Fast Forward effect.
Damage Table
The order of damage listed below is an uncharged shot, then the Techno Laser. Y/N indicates whether the boss is affected by the weapon's Fast Forward.
Devkit Bosses
- * Boss takes damage over time with Fast Forward.
Notes
- As the Mix Tape is derived from Cassette Man, his costume in MaGMML3 has specially coded interactions with it. In addition to it having a unique set of sprites for firing and changing sides, the costume's palette remains consistent, with only the cassette tape in Cassette Man's chest changing colours.
