The Wily Jet is a machine appearing in Make a Good Mega Man Level 3. It is a personal combat jet used by Dr. Wily, and is armed with all manner of weapons.

The Wily Jet first appears in Chaos Assault, where Mega Man rides it during various shoot-em-up sections while he and Dr. Wily attack Dr. Regal's fortress. Later on, it appears in the Wily stage The Greatest Show of All Time, where Dr. Wily uses it after the destruction of Wily Machine SPIRE as the main game's final boss.

Behaviour[edit]

In Chaos Assault, the Wily Jet remains underneath Mega Man at all times. Mega Man cannot jump while riding the jet; attempting to do so will instead cause both it and him to turn around, allowing it to attack enemies behind them. Whenever Mega Man shoots, the jet will fire a spreadshot from its turbines at the same time. If Mega Man fires a Charge Shot, the Wily Jet fires a large green laser from the lightbulb at its tip; however, it will be unable to fire another laser for a small amount of time afterwards, instead firing a trio of homing missiles.

Battle[edit]

The Wily Jet spends most of its fight hovering above Mega Man, and uses Mega Man's default Special Weapons against him as its attack pattern.

The Wily Jet has access to the following attacks, which it will use in a random sequence, only repeating an attack after using every other possible attack first:

  • Shooting a triple-shot spread of Thunder Beam bolts downward, ending by creating six pillars of lightning on the platform the battle takes place on. This is the first attack the Wily Jet will use.
  • Moving across the four corners of the screen, firing a Spark Chaser every time. After the second Spark Chaser, it creates a ring of sparks. After the third, it fires two homing missiles.
  • Flying off to one side of the screen and shooting three Laser Tridents at Mega Man, repeats the process for the other side of the screen, and then slowly moving from one side to the other while shooting Laser Tridents downward.
  • Flying from the background to the foreground four times, shooting a ring of Water Shield droplets as it passes by Mega Man each time.
  • Summoning a wave of tornadoes using Tornado Blow that travels from one side of the screen to the other. Four bigger tornadoes will carry a random pattern of enemies up to the platform. It will then rush across the platform. The possible enemy formations the Tornado Blow attack can summon are:
  • Hovering in the background and firing a beam into the platform that periodically creates up to five Magnetic Shockwave blasts, before sweeping the platform with a beam that creates a large amount of blasts that travel across the platform, from one edge to the other, save for a safe area on the latter.
  • Firing a rain of icicles, ending with a group of Ice Walls landing on the platform. The Wily Jet will then shoot spreadshots of four bullets at Mega Man, before firing a massive laser beam at the ground level of the platform, which can be avoided by standing on the Ice Walls.
  • Flying into the background and trying to ram into Mega Man twice in succession, similar to the Break Dash.

After being defeated, the damaged Wily Jet attempts to ram into Mega Man, who counters him by using the Rush Bike to push back against the Wily Jet, ultimately finishing it off with a Tier Rank-powered tackle.

The Ernest Jet is an enhanced version of the Wily Jet piloted by Ernest Will, found only in the True Arena as the final boss. Unlike the Ernest Machine fight that precedes it, it possesses a large number of differences from the original Wily Jet that make it a more challenging foe. It now uses the Parallel Weapons instead of the default Special Weapons, and has a new second phase with two healthbars and a brand new set of attacks using the Contest Weapon Data.

Phase 1[edit]

The Ernest Jet acts very similarly to the original Wily Jet fight, albeit with attacks themed after the Parallel Weapons. However, each attack has a number of differences to watch out for. The Ernest Jet uses the following attacks in a random sequence, never repeating an attack without exhausting the list first:

  • Shooting eight triple-shot spreads of Thermal Blast shots downward, ending by creating five fireballs on the platform that rise up into the air, before falling back down in a wave pattern as four icicles. This is the first attack the Ernest Jet will use.
  • Teleporting across the four corners of the screen in a clockwise pattern three times. The jet fires a Treasure Tracker after the first teleport, while the next three teleports see it firing an eight-way spreadshot of coins. After the third round of teleports, the jet flies offscreen while shooting a homing missile behind it.
  • Teleporting off to one side of the screen and shooting three Hero Guitars at Mega Man, repeating the process for the other side of the screen, and then slowly moving from one side to the other while shooting Hero Guitars downward. After reaching the other side, it teleports and repeats the sweep in the opposite direction.
  • Flying from the background to the foreground four times, shooting two rings of Glitz Aegis jewels as it passes by Mega Man each time. The outer ring of jewels spirals outward in a counter-clockwise pattern, while the inner ring spirals out clockwise.
  • Summoning a wave of Propeller Crowns that rocket up from both sides of the screen, gradually closing in on the center. A set of crowns will carry a random pattern of enemies up to the platform. After a while, the jet will fly to one side, then fly across the platform using its charging tackle attack. The possible enemy formations the Propeller Crown can summon are:
  • Hovering in the background and firing a beam into the platform that periodically creates up to five Last Judgement blasts, before sweeping the platform with a beam that creates a large amount of blasts that travel across the platform, from one edge to the other save for a safe area on the latter. After the blasts dissipate, five copies of Aether Man (seen in the latter's Astral Kaleidoscope attack) surround Mega Man and fly towards him, exploding on impact with each other. If Mega Man is hit by one of these copies, a random Special Weapon will be drained by one bar.
  • Firing a rain of Mafia Goons, ending with a giant one identical to Mafia Man's own. This goon will shoot two pairs of bullets at Mega Man three times before charging towards the other side of the platform; meanwhile, the Ernest Jet will shoot up to six spreadshots of four bullets. After this, the jet will fire a massive laser beam at the ground level of the platform, which can be avoided by standing on the Mafia Goon.
  • Teleporting into the background and trying to ram into Mega Man three times in succession, similar to the Castle Rush. Every charge has the jet teleport directly behind Mega Man, with a tinkle telegraphing its position. After three flights, a pair of rooks spawn on either side of the platform and rush towards the center.

After its healthbar is depleted, the Wily Jet appears to explode, but will reappear in a silhouetted form while the screen shakes. Following a brief flash of the Contest Weapon Data icon, the Ernest Jet (now without its two turbine cannons) fully reappears with a mighty scream, as the background behind it changes to a moving starfield vortex, similar to the one on the title screen.

Phase 2[edit]

Now bereft of the turbine cannons, the Ernest Jet uses the Contest Weapons for an entirely new set of attacks. Like the previous phase, it uses them in a random order, but it will not repeat an attack until it has gone through the entire list of possible attacks first.

  • The Ernest Jet flies across the screen in a wave pattern, firing five Mix Tape spreadshots, alternating between red notes (which travel diagonally) and blue notes (which travel in cardinal directions). After firing the shots, it rewinds time and flies in the opposite direction, pulling the notes back into it. After returning to its initial position, the jet summons a Techno Laser in the center of the screen before teleporting away, summoning two other Techno Lasers on either side of the screen.
  • The jet fires six Lantern Flare chains at once, which fly out a short distance before returning to it. It then teleports and repeats the attack. The third time it fires, the jet teleports away from the Lantern Flares as they fly off the top of the screen, before charging towards Mega Man from the background. Each flare explodes upon reaching the foreground.
  • The jet summons a prism before teleporting away. A Prismatic Laser prism appears in each of the four corners of the screen and fires a three-way spreadshot of lasers at Mega Man, before the Ernest Jet reappears and fires a fifth prism, which will fire an eight-way laser spread. The paths the lasers will travel in are briefly highlighted in white before they appear.
  • The Ernest Jet flies offscreen, dropping five Beet Tiller seeds onto the platform in random locations. Each seed will sprout a Beet Telly, which will home in on Mega Man. The jet will not reappear until the Beet Tellies have been destroyed.
  • The jet flies offscreen while surrounded with three giant Rec Cans. The cans are fired from the background onto the platform, where they will land into it and explode. After the third can lands, the jet will slam into the platform and create shockwaves on either side of it.
  • Teleporting to the center of the screen, Ernest Will leaves the jet as it vanishes. Floating in the air, he flies in a circle around Mega Man before teleporting and yelling with the Banshee Wail. Ernest is immune to damage in this state, and if Mega Man is hit by a Banshee Wail, he will be briefly paralyzed.
  • Teleporting to the bottom center of the screen, the Ernest Jet flies straight up while firing a Propeller Vortex stream upwards. Two more Propeller Vortex streams sweep the platform from left to right and vice versa, before another two vortexes spring up on either side of the platform, carrying with them the two Mini Wily Machines from the Wily Machine SPIRE battle. Wily Machine 1 fires an orb that plants into the ground and scatters smaller shots, while Wily Machine 2 fires four orbs that circle Mega Man before closing in on him. The machines disappear after attacking once.
  • Teleporting to either the left or right side of the platform, the Ernest Jet shoots an Electro Cable downwards and pulls itself onto the platform, creating a trio of ground sparks that crawl across the platform. Rising back up, the jet swings the Electro Cable around itself, firing a spread of small sparks outwards before gradually pulling the cable back in.
  • The jet teleports to the center of the screen, and Ernest Will flies out of it. Striking a pose to reveal a pair of Track Shoes, he teleports above Mega Man and drops down to the ground two times (each time creating a small shockwave on either side of him), before teleporting to one side of the platform and quickly running over to the other, leaving a trail of flames behind him. He repeats this pattern once more, before jumping into the air and teleporting away, throwing two giant Track Shoes in an arc while doing so. While using this attack, Ernest is immune to damage.
  • Ernest Will leaves the jet and teleports in the air, firing four Royal Guard diamonds aimed directly at Mega Man before using one of the other three suits for an extra attack, repeating the diamond attack after using it. First he fires a five-way spreadshot of spades, then he throws two clubs that explode into small flame shockwaves upon hitting the ground, then finally he fires a circle of four hearts that spiral outwards. As with the other attacks where Ernest leaves the jet, he is immune to damage while using this attack.
  • The Ernest Jet teleports to one side of the platform and fires the Bait Bobber at Mega Man three times. If the bobber hits him, the Ernest Jet will reel him in and slam him against the platform, inflicting damage. After this, it teleports to the other side of the platform and fires the Bait Bobber downwards, fishing up Princess. Spinning her in a circle, it slams Princess into the platform and kills her; the explosion she emits afterwards is capable of inflicting damage.
  • Teleporting to the top of the screen, the Ernest Jet summons a wave of Power Lines that travel across the screen from one side to the other. The jet teleports to ground level on one side of the platform and fires up to four lightning bolts at Mega Man, requiring him to jump between the Power Line waves to avoid it. The jet teleports to the other side of the platform and fires a fifth lightning bolt, before teleporting into the air and firing a sixth, after which it teleports again.

After defeating the Ernest Jet, it explodes as the background disappears, revealing a projector room identical to the one seen in the final battle of Mega Man 2, with the Ernest Jet having been a hologram. After it explodes, Ernest Will jumps to the ground and begs for mercy.

Trivia[edit]

  • Though the Wily Jet comes immediately after Wily Machine SPIRE (even when fighting it in the Boss Gallery), it is considered its own separate boss. The same is true for the Ernest Will superboss, with the Ernest Jet being counted separately.
  • The ending cutscene against the Wily Jet does not play when it is fought in the Boss Gallery, and Mega Man will instead teleport out before it would normally begin.
  • The sound used for the Ernest Jet's Banshee Wail attack is Guzzlord's cry from the Japanese version of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon.
  • When teleporting, the glitch effect of the Ernest Jet spells, "WILY ALWAYS WINS," a line of dialogue spoken by Dr. Wily during Mega Man 11s final boss fight.
  • After using the Bait Bobber attack to kill Princess once, all subsequent uses on that save file will use a blue corpse-like Princess with shadowed eyes. This is a reference to Pizza Tower, in which The Doise (a boss who replaces The Noise in the latter's campaign) will be dead on all subsequent refights, complete with blue coloring.
  • The pose Ernest assumes when starting the Track Shoes attack is based on the "Among Drip" render depicting the Crewmates from Among Us wearing themed Jordan sneakers.
