Shinsopod What! & Shinkhangel Where! are a pair of bosses from Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, found at the end of Hydrothermal Layer. Shinsopod What! is a large isopod robot that crawls along ceilings, and Shinkhangel Where! is a small support drone modelled on a sea angel, which powers an impenetrable red armoured shell for the isopod's vulnerable body. The pair were originally security robots for a derelict underwater military base, and were repurposed by the Box Cartel when they turned the base into their hideout.

Battle[edit]

Shinsopod What! crawls along the ceiling at all times, tracking Mega Man's position, while Shinkhangel Where! is linked to it via a harmless electric chain. Shinsopod What! is the main target, but it is initially invincible; to damage it, Mega Man must shoot Shinkhangel Where! sixteen times to stun it and break the chain, deactivating Shinsopod What!'s shell and allowing Mega Man to damage it. After a few seconds, Shinkhangel Where! recovers and reinstates the shell. Throughout the battle, the drone attacks Mega Man by chasing after him, and occasionally shooting a pair of tall electric barriers outwards.

While armoured, Shinsopod What! will use one of three attacks at random, never using the same one twice in a row. It can:

  • Fire up to three bombs from its mouth, which explode and release four floating Tackle Fires if they hit a surface. The Tackle Fires then spread out and fly at Mega Man.
  • Drop four large drops of red acid from the hatch in its centre, which split into three smaller drops upon hitting the ground.
  • Shoot a volley of four homing missiles from its tail.

Once Shinsopod What! has only 1 HP remaining, it curls into a ball and starts following Mega Man more aggressively, while firing volleys of three shots that spiral outwards. As it is always armoured in this state, to defeat it Mega Man must disrupt Shinkhangel Where!'s link to it one more time. Doing so will destroy both robots instantly.

Trivia[edit]

  • Shinsopod What! & Shinkhangel Where! are named after two music tracks from Thunder Force IV: "Fighting Back What?" (which plays on the stage Strite), and "Sand Hell Where?" (which plays on the stage Daser).
  • Shinsopod What! is the only boss in the Cartel Hideout to drop an Energy Element upon its defeat.
