(Long overdue revamp.)

Cheat Mode is a recurring mode in the MaGMML series, first appearing in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2. Typically a reward for 100% completion, it allows the player to access cheats such as invincibility, removing bosses' invincibility frames, or even bonus modes like New Game+. The Cheat Menu is accessed from the file select screen after being unlocked.
+
Cheats are a recurring feature in the MaGMML series, introduced in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2. Similar to cheat codes or hacks in other video game, cheats are optional features that alter gameplay in a number of ways. The effects of a cheat can vary; from affecting Mega Man's movement or control, to minor graphical alterations, to altering overall difficulty by affecting enemies and bosses, to even fully-fledged bonus modes such as New Game+, or the option to play as characters other than Mega Man.

In order to unlock Cheat Mode in MaGMML2, the player needs to talk to Cheat Man, who shows up right next to Dr. Light's Lab. In Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered, it is unlocked as soon as 100% completion on any file is achieved. In Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, the mode is unlocked by talking to Brainga in the Captain's room. Notably, the only requirement to enter the room is to defeat Pirate Man, making MaG48HMML the first game where the Cheat Menu can be unlocked without 100% completion.
+
Cheats are accessed through a dedicated Cheat Menu, which can toggle cheats on or off. The exact way in which the Cheat Menu is accessed and unlocked varies from game to game, but cheats are almost always a bonus feature awarded after clearing some sort of task, often achieving 100% completion.

Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, however, has a different approach when it comes to cheats. They can be purchased and activated from Eddie's shop on the Floor 2 of Victor Heights hotel. More cheat options are unlocked as the player progresses through the game. They only apply to any level which was fully completed (i.e. when every Energy Element and every Trickster Token is collected in it). As soon as the player buys out Eddie's entire stock, he shares a secret code that makes cheats applicable everywhere - even in hub areas. MaGMML3 doesn't require reaching 100% completion akin to MaG48HMML: the cheats are available much sooner compared to previous MaGMML games.
+
Any use of cheats in a level will invalidate any active leaderboard runs, and force it into a special "Cheat" category separate from the other leaderboard categories.

All the cheats listed here can be enabled simultaneously, however, after closing the game, the cheats will need to be reactivated when playing the game again.
+
After earning 100% completion on a save file, Cheat Man appears outside Dr. Light's Lab; speaking to him once will unlock the Cheat Menu, and all subsequent conversations will take Mega Man to it. The Cheat Menu can also be accessed from the File Select menu for all files, even those that aren't 100% complete.

|Mega Man's physics are altered to parody those of the fangame Mega Man Eternal. When active, Mega Man's gravity is dramatically increased, reducing his normal jump height. Jumping while sliding bypasses this and makes him jump extremely high. His idle sprite is also replaced with his tiptoe frame, and his walk speed is faster.

In total, there are 82 bosses that can be summoned, including one never seen anywhere else in the full game. Invincibility changes things to where you instead get a surprise boss in cases that would normally cause damage but don't this time. WARNING. Another fair note of warning, be very cautious when using surprise bosses in a level with autoscroll, as Mega Man may be scrolled off along with the boss, softlocking the game.

The following cheats did not return from MaGMML2:

Like MaGMML2, cheats in Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered are a bonus reward for achieving 100% completion. Prior to unlocking the Cheat Menu, a sign appears outside Dr. Light's Lab after beating the game, and hints at the requirements necessary to unlock it. As soon as a save file reaches 100% completion, the Cheat Menu is unlocked for all files, without needing to speak to an in-game NPC.

In addition, some brand new cheats are featured (however, the "____ Only" cheats are mutually exclusive, and activating one while another is active will turn the previous one off):

Unlike in MaGMML2, there is no way to access the Cheat Menu while in-game; it can only be accessed from the File Select menu. Restarting the game will turn off all currently active cheats.

Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero
 +
Although Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero does not feature a traditional Cheat Menu, the Z-Phone can still be used to trigger events similar to cheats by calling certain hidden numbers. These numbers are distinguished as "collect calls", which warn Zero that accepting them will disqualify the current run from leaderboard submissions, before offering the option to refuse it. Some collect calls are similar to cheats from past MaGMML games, while others would appear in later games as traditional cheats.
 +

 +
All collect calls can be used as soon as the Z-Phone becomes available, without needing to earn any major milestone. Collect calls will not work if they are dialled while on the world map.

Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level
The following cheats from previous games are retained:
+
In Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, the Cheat Menu is unlocked by speaking to the Brainga NPC within the SS Elroy's wheelhouse after defeating Pirate Man. As such, 100% completion isn't required to unlock cheats. Like MaGMML1R, the Cheat Menu can only be accessed from the File Select, with no way to toggle cheats during gameplay. Any save file can use the Cheat Menu once it has been unlocked once.

* Invincibility

Cheats are now applied on a per save file basis, and will remain active even after restarting or closing the game, without the need to manually re-enable them.

Make a Good Mega Man Level 3
Make a Good Mega Man Level 3
 +
In Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, cheats are handled differently from previous games. After earning three Tier Ranks, a shop run by Eddie opens up on the second floor of the Victor Heights hotel, beyond a gap in the leftmost wall. Here, Mega Man can buy specific cheats for a certain amount of bolts, with the price varying depending on the cheat. A room in the back of the shop allows Mega Man to try out any currently active cheat. The traditional Cheat Menu is now incorporated into Eddie's shop, and not only tracks how many cheats are currently active, but has an option to turn off every cheat at once.
 +
 +
Although cheats are available much earlier than in past games, they can only be used inside levels, and only after collecting every Energy Element and Trickster Token within it. If a cheat is active, a small Eddie icon will appear near Mega Man's healthbar as an indicator.

Cheats are now sorted into four categories, Power Cheats, Challenge Cheats, Wacky Cheats, and Special Cheats. The following cheats from previous games are retained:
+
The number of cheats that can be purchased gradually increases as the game progresses. Buying 20 cheats will unlock the Vile costume, while buying every single cheat unlocks the "Game Shark" achievement. Buying every cheat will also prompt Eddie to share a secret code to be activated on the File Select menu while holding the Slide button; this will create a "cheat file" that allows cheats to be used everywhere, even in hub areas and levels that haven't been 100% completed yet.

Revision as of 01:46, 13 March 2025

Cheats are a recurring feature in the MaGMML series, introduced in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2. Similar to cheat codes or hacks in other video game, cheats are optional features that alter gameplay in a number of ways. The effects of a cheat can vary; from affecting Mega Man's movement or control, to minor graphical alterations, to altering overall difficulty by affecting enemies and bosses, to even fully-fledged bonus modes such as New Game+, or the option to play as characters other than Mega Man.

Any use of cheats in a level will invalidate any active leaderboard runs, and force it into a special "Cheat" category separate from the other leaderboard categories.

Make a Good Mega Man Level 2

After earning 100% completion on a save file, Cheat Man appears outside Dr. Light's Lab; speaking to him once will unlock the Cheat Menu, and all subsequent conversations will take Mega Man to it. The Cheat Menu can also be accessed from the File Select menu for all files, even those that aren't 100% complete.

Every cheat can be used simultaneously, but closing the game deactivates all currently active cheats, effectively resetting them.

List of cheats
Cheat Description Notes
Invincibility Makes Mega Man permanently invincible. Mega Man can still die by falling into pits or getting crushed, or by pressing 2 on the keyboard. In addition, death spikes act as solid blocks. Enemies using the Grab Buster will still get health back despite not damaging the player.
Infinite Ammo All Special Weapons will never run out of ammo.
Burst Chaser Mega Man's quick movement from Escape Sequence can now be used on every level.
Air Sliding Mega Man's air sliding from some select stages can now be used in every level. Mega Man can jump after doing an air slide.
Moonwalking Self-explanatory. This is the Thriller, etcetra.[sic] The Left and Right buttons are reversed, and Mega Man walks backwards.
Low Gravity Permanently gives Mega Man low gravity.
High Gravity Permanently gives Mega Man high gravity.
Instadeath Mode Self-explanatory. You will forever only have 1 or less health. Mega Man's healthbar is set to exactly 1 HP and will never increase, even when collecting health pickups.
No I-Frames Now, when Mega Man gets hit, you will have no invincibility frames.
No Boss I-Frames Now, when a boss is hit, they will have no invincibility frames.
Invisible Player Mega Man is now very self-conscious and refuses to show himself to the world. Mega Man becomes invisible. His projectiles will also turn invisible, except for the first frame in which they are spawned.
Hidden Healthbars This cheat is guarenteed to give you intense anxiety. When active, all healthbars become invisible.
Perma Ice Physics If you REALLY like ice and snow levels, then this cheat is for you. Permanently afflicts Mega Man with ice physics, even on non-icy terrain.
Crazy Drop Rate Enemies will always drop an item when they die.
Double Game Speed The game goes faster now!! Go faster!! Keep going!! Keep moving!! RUN!! RUN!! RUN!!! Doubles the maximum frame rate to 120 FPS, dramatically increasing the game's speed.
Lingering Weapons Stops Special Weapons from going away on quick weapon switch, allowing for interesting combos. Pausing the game and manually switching to a different weapon will still cause all onscreen Special Weapons to disappear. Sakugarne and Super Arrow will only drain weapon energy if Mega Man is currently equipped with them.
Huge Weapons Now, your weapons are GIGANTIC. Dramatically increases the size of Mega Man's projectiles.
Splitting Buster If your buster shot gets destroyed, then it splits into two more shots.
Zero Buster Now, your buster has unimaginable power. Normal buster shots become copies of Zero that shoot Knight Man copies out in random directions. Charge Shots are unaffected.
Enemy Knockback Hate knockback on yourself? Try it on enemies! Enemies and bosses will be permanently knocked backwards when damaged, inverting their directions. However, some bosses and enemies may/will glitch through walls.
Gravity Flipping Replaces the Slide button with an on-demand gravity flip. Using this while fighting Gravity Man will crash the game. This does not happen with Groovity Man, though using it in that boss fight might cause a death.
Vertical Wrap Say goodbye to pits - now, vertical wrap is permanently active for every level. Some areas in some levels loop where they are not supposed to, such as when going down a certain ladder in Cardinal Man.
Boss Explosions All enemies release a boss explosion when killed.
Eternal Suffering Your physics are better now.
Hyper Knockback Increases knockback by just a tiny bit. When getting hit by enemies, Mega Man is knocked higher into the air and farther backwards.
The Floor is Lava With this on, you'll gradually lose health when on the ground, and regain health when in the air. This cheat supercedes the Invincibility cheat if it is currently active.
Free Roaming Start a new save file with all hidden areas, such as Tier X, unlocked from the start.
New Game+ Start a new save file with all upgrades, Knight Man rewards, and costumes unlocked.
Nitro Man follower With this on, Nitro Man from Rad Gravity will always be around to help. Except in a few places.
Don't Look Back Did you ever want to be stalked by those hands from Duwang, but ALWAYS? Well, now you can! Causes Hand Walls to appear in all areas of the game, including hub areas.
Cursor Curse Drag around objects onscreen by clicking on them. Can also drag bosses and NPCs. Named after the level of the same name. Some objects will have their sprites moved around by this but still have their functionality and collision unmoved.
All Bouncy Castle Applies a modified version of the Bouncy Castle gimmick to every level. USE WITH CAUTION IF YOU HAVE MOTION SICKNESS!! Not every enemy or boss is affected. Does not apply to very specific areas, such as Outer Space. When active, Spring Man and Quake Woman will have unique dialogue in the main hub.
Beta Bouncy Castle Bouncy Castle has the constant bouncing from its beta version. USE WITH EXTEREME CAUTION!!
Proto Man Mode Play as Proto Man! He has his trademark Proto Shield, bigger Charge Shot, and inability to take hits. Dialogue and cutscenes remain unchanged. If this cheat and Bass Mode are both active, Proto Man is replaced with Zero, who can dash and use the Bass Buster, while holding the Proto Shield.
Bass Mode Play as Bass! He has a dash instead of a slide and use his rapid-fire Bass Buster. Dialogue and cutscenes remain unchanged. If this cheat and Proto Man Mode are both active, Bass is replaced with Zero, who can dash and use the Bass Buster, while holding the Proto Shield
Mario Mode Play as Mario from Mario Land in any level you want, in all his buggy glory. Likely to cause crashes. Unlike in Mario Land, Mario is able to use Special Weapons (except while in the aforementioned level). Can be combined with Proto Man Mode and/or Bass Mode.
Flashman85 Let Flashman85 aka GeminiLaser aka Nathaniel Hoover spice up your life with some new sound effects and music. Adds different sound effects to several objects, like teleporters and Special Weapons, and replaces Water Ducts' level music. The Flash Man NPC in the main hub is also renamed to Flashman85, and Clown Man in Tier 2 also has different dialogue, among other things.
Meme Restoration Restores the true, complete fusion of the Scorch Men. The mugshots for the Scorching Duo's fusion cutscene are replaced with the crude drawings used as placeholder graphics for the results livestream.
Inner Apocalypse hello. i feel the need to ping @ Garirrry[sic] to tell him of how much Despair his level caused me. it drained me of my heart and soul. Inner Sanctum is altered to be significantly more difficult, spoofing its original pre-nerf iteration.
Ultra MaGMML2 Play the game with an alternate storyline! Only $39.99. A parody of Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon and its minimal story changes from the original. Cutscene dialogue is altered to include references to Lunala and Necrozma, who are both included in the game's "alternate storyline". Lunala replaces the spaceship used in Outer Space and Reality Core, while Necrozma replaces the Reality Core and is fought as a Wily Core reskin. Both Legendary Pokémon are represented with low quality JPEGs.
Butt Mode Of all the heroes, none shone brighter than Butt Butt and Proto Butt. Replaces certain words with "Butt". This cheat is lifted from Shovel Knight, which has an identical cheat.
Surprise Bosses Reminiscent of a certain Game Genie code for a certain Mega Man game certain people know about. Whenever Mega Man takes damage (or would otherwise do so, if Invincibility is active), a random boss will show up as long as one isn't still active. In total, there are 82 possible bosses that can be summoned, including one that is otherwise unused.

This cheat is very prone to causing crashes and softlocks, particularly with certain bosses and when triggered in an Auto Scroller section.

Green Star Mode (Lubba voice) Gee Mario, the festival is swarmed with Green Prankster Comets! There's 314 Green Stars! And no using Super Mode! Adds 314 collectable Green Stars across the entire game, parodying Super Mario Galaxy 2's Green Stars. As the cheat description states, Super Mode is disabled while this cheat is active, though other cheats that may aid in obtaining Green Stars (such as Invincibility, Air Sliding, Burst Chaser etc.) can still be used.
MaGMML1 Rush Jet Only 2016 kids will remember the good old days. Use this cheat to relive the REAL Rush Jet experience. Rush Jet immediately leaves as soon as Mega Man touches its hitbox, mocking the buggy Rush Jet seen in the original Make a Good Mega Man Level.
Music Randomizer All music tracks in the game are now randomized. Beware of looping victory themes. The Sound Test in the Challenge Tent is not affected. Prior to version 1.4, this cheat was combined with Contest Randomizer.
Contest Randomizer The levels and judge comments are now randomized. The position of the levels and judge comments are randomized. Prior to version 1.4, this cheat was combined with Music Randomizer.

Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered

Like MaGMML2, cheats in Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered are a bonus reward for achieving 100% completion. Prior to unlocking the Cheat Menu, a sign appears outside Dr. Light's Lab after beating the game, and hints at the requirements necessary to unlock it. As soon as a save file reaches 100% completion, the Cheat Menu is unlocked for all files, without needing to speak to an in-game NPC.

Unlike in MaGMML2, there is no way to access the Cheat Menu while in-game; it can only be accessed from the File Select menu. Restarting the game will turn off all currently active cheats.

Several cheats return from MaGMML2, in addition to some brand new cheats. While multiple cheats can be used simultaneously, the "[Special Weapon] Only" cheats are mutually exclusive – activating one while another is active will turn the previous one off.

Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero

Although Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero does not feature a traditional Cheat Menu, the Z-Phone can still be used to trigger events similar to cheats by calling certain hidden numbers. These numbers are distinguished as "collect calls", which warn Zero that accepting them will disqualify the current run from leaderboard submissions, before offering the option to refuse it. Some collect calls are similar to cheats from past MaGMML games, while others would appear in later games as traditional cheats.

All collect calls can be used as soon as the Z-Phone becomes available, without needing to earn any major milestone. Collect calls will not work if they are dialled while on the world map.

List of collect calls
Number Notes
2401 Summons a friendly copy of Zero that uses X's colour scheme. It will mimic Zero's movements, but not his weapons except for the Z-Saber.

This call cannot be used if 5000 has already been dialed and accepted.
2525 Instantly reverses Zero's gravity whenever dialed.
3732 Activates a cheat similar to The Floor is Lava. Zero's health will quickly decrease while on the ground, but health will not be restored while airborne.
5000 Summons the Trailing Zeroes from Null and Void, which will pester Zero for the duration of the level.

This call cannot be used if 2401 has already been dialed and accepted.
7439 Summons an invincible Tamp that follows Zero across the current level, only disappearing when he completes it, quits, or dies.
8164 Spawns a Big Fish at Zero's current location whenever the number is dialled.
9347 Summons Spark Devils from Shocking Wacko Stage into the current level, which harass Zero until he either finishes the level, quits, or dies.

Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level

In Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, the Cheat Menu is unlocked by speaking to the Brainga NPC within the SS Elroy's wheelhouse after defeating Pirate Man. As such, 100% completion isn't required to unlock cheats. Like MaGMML1R, the Cheat Menu can only be accessed from the File Select, with no way to toggle cheats during gameplay. Any save file can use the Cheat Menu once it has been unlocked once.

Cheats are now applied on a per save file basis, and will remain active even after restarting or closing the game, without the need to manually re-enable them.

Most of the cheats are recycled from previous games, but a handful of brand new cheats are also included.

Make a Good Mega Man Level 3

Although cheats are available much earlier than in past games, they can only be used inside levels, and only after collecting every Energy Element and Trickster Token within it. If a cheat is active, a small Eddie icon will appear near Mega Man's healthbar as an indicator.

Cheats are now divided into four categories, based on their effect.

Power Cheats give Mega Man new abilities or some other form of advantage.
